General Policies

General Policies

Guests must be a minimum of four months with optimal health. Pets with end stage diseases such as cancer, liver/kidney disease, or congestive heart failure are not candidates for guest status unless special conditions exist. We will allow diabetic dogs on a case by case basis. Dogs with cognitive dysfunction (commonly referred to as old age dementia) will not be accepted for guest status due to intensive requirements for care. Any guest with special needs will be assessed applicable fee for care.

It is imperative that guardians understand pets who may normally reside in the same household and pets who have never encountered altercations may exhibit aggressive behaviors towards another under stressful conditions. This can occur even with housemates that have resided without incident together for years. If guest exhibits stress aggression, housemates will be separated and moved into separate accommodations to avoid harm or injury. Guardians will be financially responsible for separate quarters.

Guests must be under control when presented to the facility. Dogs must be harnessed, leashed or crated. We request that all guardians adhere to proper pet etiquette while on premises.

All guests must be currently receiving flea and tick applications or preventatives. This must be reflected in their medical records. OTC (over the counter) remedies are not considered valid. The product must be veterinary approved. If external parasites are noted, The Pawza will apply or administer a veterinary approved product prior to admitting guest into accommodation. Guardians will be financially responsible for this product.

Vaccination Requirements

In order to ensure the safety and health of guests, we adhere to the strictest protocols of recommended vaccines ensuring guests do not contract any virus for which there is a vaccine. The Pawza does not, nor recommends, that anyone but veterinarian administer vaccines. Vaccines administered by guardians or breeders will not be acknowledged! We will abide and adhere to each veterinarian’s protocol regarding duration and span of vaccine for the exception of Bordetella, which is required every six months. Please note some clinics vaccinate for Bordetella at guardian’s request only. On rare occasions some pets are unable to receive recommended vaccines. In such cases client must furnish a recommendation letter from veterinarian (only letters signed and written on letterhead of DVM will be accepted and acknowledged). Guardian, acknowledging risk and absolving The Pawza of said risks, must sign applicable waiver.

Dogs

  • Distemper combo vaccine (generally within one/three year)
  • Parvo (generally within one/three year)
  • Leptosporosis, not mandatory but highly recommended since Lepto has zoonotic implications! (generally within one year)
  • Bordetella (every six months)

Guardian Submissions
(Please adhere to the “Rule of Threes!”)

Presented Food/Snacks

Guardians are welcomed and encouraged to provide food/snacks. In order to deter errors in feeding, food should be submitted in individual containers/baggies with guest’s information; please provide both guest’s first name and surname. Limit food and treat choices to three varieties only! Unless guest is of large stature and stay extended please do not submit food in large bags! Always supply ample food and snacks in case stay is longer than anticipated. All unused food/snacks will be returned upon check-out. We will NOT give or offer any items posing potential choking hazards or products posing a risk for gastric/intestinal obstruction and or perforation. Items that may pose risks of airway obstruction and intestinal obstruction/perforation include “knotted” rawhide chews, rope toys and bones of any type including bones in raw meats. We will gladly oblige large rawhide bones but only during regular business hours when guests are supervised.

Belongings (Bedding/Toys)

Guardians are encouraged to present guests’ favourite comfort items since items may afford guests’ the comfort and assurance necessary to enjoy stay. Please limit toys to three per guest. Bedding should be easily washable and three bedding items per guest requested. Please do not present valuable or irreplaceable items since we cannot insure condition or return. Bedding and comfort items should be labeled with permanent marker to assure proper return if misplaced (most articles contain small tags stating content of material and care instructions which are suitable for this purpose). Please do NOT supply dishes or eating implements. Upon initial visit guardians must sign and acknowledge whether guest has been, or is, a potential “bed/cloth” eater in order to ensure guest will not have complications due to this behaviour. The Pawza will not be held responsible for consequences if knowledge of such facts is not divulged.

Medications/Supplements

Guests requiring administration of medications must adhere to The Pawza’s regulations. Medications/supplements must be presented in container, in which prescribed/purchased; container must contain guest’s and veterinarian’s name, strength and name of medication/supplement with latest dosing information. Meds given on “as needed basis” or certain days must be accompanied by complete written dosing instructions. No exceptions! Extra medications MUST always be provided in case of an unforeseen extended stay, accidental breakage and moisture issues etc. This is critical with seizure and heart medications. Our most important concern, foremost and always, is the welfare and safety of guests.

Temperament Testing

Guests signed up for group activities must pass an in-house temperament test allowing evaluation of potential reactions to other pets and situations that may be encountered during group activities. Guests MUST be spayed or neutered. Any guest with potential aggression issues (toy or food aggression) will be eliminated from any group activity. Group activities involve dogs of like size, age and disposition eliminating or decreasing possibility of injuries or spats.

Reservations

Reservations are recommended as far in advance as possible, particularly at peak holiday times and during summer season.

Accommodations are assigned on a “first come first serve” basis, so book early. Since we are a “boutique-type” structure we have limited availability and as such deposits are required for each reservation. The average deposit is based on a three-day stay in accommodation requested. Deposits are non refundable unless reservation canceled seven days prior to scheduled check-in date. Deposits are mandatory when reservation is made and may be submitted via credit/debit card, check, or cash (cash accepted only in person and checks must clear four days prior to check in time). Reservations may be made via phone and in person only. Reservations made via email or Internet will NOT be confirmed unless guardian speaks directly with a representative of The Pawza to obtain reservation number. If number is not assigned, reservation will be considered invalid. Please retain this number to avoid any last minute complications.

Due to limited space/availability The Pawza has a three-day minimum stay.
